lewis' post race interview with canal+ at the monaco gp '23

Lewis, last year in Japan you spent a long race in the rain behind Ocon. Here we have the same story again, impossible to pass. You had a chat together in the end, I saw you.

Yeah, I was very happy for him. He did a great job and didn’t make any mistakes. Naturally deserved the finish, he did an amazing lap yesterday to get to start really high so, and I was just saying to him, he was like “you were applying a lot of pressure to me” so, he did a great job, I don’t think he was ever that threatened by me. And a little bit of struggle out there I think for all of us, but no real mistakes from my side so I’m happy with that. There’s a couple of things, if we look back, there’s a couple of I would’ve changed with strategy and a bit of set-up that I think would’ve put me higher up in qualifying and in the race. So, keep that in mind for the next race.

Tell us what you’re thinking, how can you read the road because it was getting very very wet around the Casino and the Hairpin and not here in the paddock?

So hard, so hard [giggles]. It is really really hard. You’re just tiptoeing, you know, everywhere and it’s like being on ice. It’s literally like being on ice. And then you could see a couple of big spits going up into turn 3 and then all of the sudden turn 4 it was really wet and then 5, 6, 7, 8 you just were going super slow and even when you’re going slow, you’re sliding so it was so tricky, but I was just holding my breath and making sure I didn’t make any mistakes so, it was tough.
